Matic explained why he did not wear a red poppy
Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matich uses social networks to explain his decision not to put a red poppy on his shirt during a fight against Bournemouth last weekend. The Serb was the only player in the 22nd field who did not wear the symbol that honors the memory of all the dead British soldiers. Because of this, the Serb has been subject to many criticisms from English fans. Here is his explanation:
`I fully understand why people carry poppies, respect everyone`s right to do it and sympathize with all those who have lost their relatives because of military conflict. `is just a reminder of the attack I personally experienced as a small, frightened 12-year-old boy living in Vrello when my country was devastated by the bombing of Serbia in 1999. Although I did it before, now that I have thought, that I do not want to wear a pop on my shirt.
I do not want to undermine the poppya symbol of pride in the UK, nor to offend anyone, we are all a product of our upbringing and this is my personal choice based on the reasons already described. `
